9 Ways to Style your Home for Winter

9 Ways to Style your Home for Winter

9 tips for luxurious winter interior design

Now the Winter months are upon us and Summer feels more distant by the day, you may be thinking about switching up your summer home decor for something a little cosier. At Alexander James Interiors, we have put together some of our top tips for getting your home ready for the Winter Season.

  1. Lighting

As the nights draw in earlier and days becoming increasingly shorter, your home may be seeing a little less daylight than usual, making rooms dark and gloomy. In winter months, you can maximise lighting in your home to make sure spaces still look bright and inviting. Adding a new pendant light in darker areas of the home, or moving lamps around into rooms that get less daylight can make a real difference. Extra lighting may be needed in some areas of the home in winter, such as your kitchen or study.

2. Mirrors

Adding extra mirrors in your home can extend light around a room, making spaces look larger and much brighter. With the shorter days of winter, natural daylight should be maximised where possible. Mirrors also act as a decorative display, making a key focal point in any room of the home.

3. Mantel décor

When winter arrives, cosy evenings inside are a must. If you have a fireplace, make it a statement piece in your living area, using winter accessories and styling pieces that make it the perfect wintery focal point. Placing a large mirror or piece of artwork above your fireplace immediately draws the eye to it upon entrance to the room.

4. Fireplace furniture

Fireplaces are very often not utilised in the summer months, so make the most of them in the winter season.

Rearranging furniture around your fireplace can create a cosy space to snuggle up on cold evenings. Adding rugs, throws and cushions maximise on that hygge feel.

5. Natural Elements

You may feel that your home needs life injecting into it whilst the weather is bleak outside. Incorporate some green accents plants into your interior for a bright, lively feel to your rooms. Whether real or faux, adding greenery can uplift and add personality to an interior.

6. Winter Bedrooms

On a cold winter morning, sometimes you already can’t wait to get back into bed at the end of the day. Make winter bedtimes something to look forward to by adding extra cushions and throws for a warm, sumptuous, homely feel.

Cosy bedroom lighting such as warming bedside lamps are also effective to create a comforting mood lighting for ultimate relaxation for those early winter bedtimes.

7. Winter Tones

Revamping your decor with warm, rich tones is the perfect way to make your home Winter-ready. For Winter 2020, deep greys and earthy colours such as spice tones make a great addition to your interior.

If you are feeling bold, create a statement feature wall, or if you don’t feel so confident, just incorporate these wintery tones in accent cushions, textiles, and styling pieces. A gorgeous coloured throw or bold cushions can warm up your neutral spaces, making them look less stark and cold like the weather outside.

8. Dining Table Styling

Winter is one of the most popular seasons to dine at home, so make the most of your dining décor. Adding luxurious, sophisticated styling pieces to your dining table can make every meal special.

It is also a great way to inject colour into your table setting. Using candles, metallic table and glassware and a floral centrepiece create a beautiful, wintery dining area.

9. Home Fragrances

Candles and diffusers create the perfect cosy feel in your home all year round; however we all appreciate extra cosiness and warmth in the winter months. We think it is important to use winter fragrances in the home.

The Winter Collection by the White Company features a gorgeous combination of spicy cinnamon, rich warming clove and fresh zesty orange.
