With Autumn’s arrival, it’s the perfect time to swing into the season with new style. So what are the experts saying about October Interior Design?
Well this year has all been about simplifying our busy, pressured lives and invoking a sense of calm, seamlessness and tranquillity. The interiors of the home in 2016 are focussed on offering one a haven of relaxation – a place to completely detox and detach from our hectic lives. Rounded, soft shapes and textures of nature complemented by serene, warm colours are making the home an intuitive place of calm in 2016.
So with that in mind, and with the arrival of Autumn, we can take a closer look into what is trending this October. Our interior designers offer the following 6 design trends you can include in your home:
1. Bring in the Colours of Autumn
Introduce the deep, rich hues of yellow, reds and oranges into your home and let them lift your spirits. These autumnal touches do not need to be on a grand scale, you can significantly alter the feel of a space with simple adjustments:-
- Brighten the space with a sunny pop of yellow curtains
- Rather than painting an accent wall, paint an accent floor
- Ponder what colourful artwork you have in storage and where you could enliven your space
- Energise your rooms with vibrant, autumnal-coloured cushions, vases and painted bookshelves
2. Contrast Your Colours
Utilise the contrast of colour when you introduce the autumnal shades into your interiors – a top trend for this October interior design.
By using lighter tones, such as light greys and whites, the richer colours are enhanced against the clean, fresh backdrop.
As our interior designer Karina says:-
“It’s all about the balance of the spectrum. By using a clean palette of lighter tones, you heighten the richness of the autumnal colours and intensify their impact. This contrast lifts the colours and lifts the spirit in the home.”
3. Join the Knit Interiors Trend
With the floaty fabrics of summer setting with the sunshine, now it’s time for us to welcome in some cosy, warm interior design decor – and the modern movement of knitted home interiors.
With a wide array of knitted accessories to choose from, as well as creative adornments such as knitted wallpaper, this new design trend has at its heart the concept of returning to nature, rustic comforts and uncomplicated living.
So think chunky knits, knitted lights, knitted furniture, rugs and pillows – all of these add a homely hospitality, visual warmth and rich textures to your home. Perfect when the nights draw in and temperatures begin to drop.
4. Light Some Candles
Bring in the rich scents of autumn into your home with exquisite candles. Let their twinkling flames illuminate your rooms and have the warmth of their perfume permeate your home.

5. Wow with Vintage Travel
The modern, glossy, clean interior design trend is out. Vintage travel design is in.
Transporting you back to another time in history, this trend is rustic, uncomplicated and brimming with character. It creates a sense of charm and wonder in antiquity through aged, eclectic pieces.
Envision: battered vintage trunks, 16th century antique globes, classic vintage leather sofas, beaten up old lamps, antique Louis XV settees and other quirky antique relics that bring that sense of vintage wonder…
6. Style with Nordic flair
Old carpets are no longer ‘the thing’ – the trend is now open flooring and Scandinavian grace.
Known for their natural elegance, purity and beauty, the Nordic style has simplicity at its heart; impeccable craftsmanship, clean lines and understated style.
Minimalist in design; white washed furniture, open-flooring with snug sheep rugs, grey sofas and cushions – with an emphasis on the fireplace and logs burning at the hub of the home.
